Set within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Cornwall, England, this project involved the comprehensive design for the grounds of a 17th-century (c. 1600s) cottage and the adaptive reuse of its workshop and garage into a new garden house.
The design solution is born from its context, echoing the humble scale of historic Cornish architecture and the region’s quaint rustic vernacular. The interior features an open-plan living space under a vaulted, double-height ceiling, capturing light and expansive views of the Restronguet Valley.
To strengthen the bond between the building and the natural setting, double-leaf corner doors blend the living area with a garden balcony and lawn terrace. These outdoor rooms are crafted from traditional Cornish dry-laid stone, honoring local materials and integrating the new structure into its age-old setting.
