Springfield's Tech's Community College is located within the National Park Service's Springfield Armory campus. The historic site commemorates the critical role of the nation's first armory by preserving and interpreting the world's most extensive historic US military small arms collection, along with historic archives, buildings, and landscapes.
In collaboration with Ann Beha Architects, Chris led the site planning and site design effort for relocating college administration and student facilities from the historic quad to a unique but derelict armory storage building surrounded by a sea of asphalt parking lots.
Creating a new campus quarter for college administration and student life was the goal of the planning effort. This was achieved by re-allocating parking, creating a new campus green and pedestrianized corridors that connect the adapted building and new student precinct with the historic campus. The project received a 2019 SCUP award for campus planning.
